FDA warns of unapproved nose masks flooding markets
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has warned the general public to be wary of unapproved nose masks that are flooding the market.
The Authority said most of the nose masks were inferior and fall short of the layer specifications.
According to Nora Narkie Terlabie, Head of the FDA in the Ashanti Region, unapproved masks posed a lot of risks to the public.
“I must say it is very widespread. Now anywhere you go by the roadside, people are holding them and selling,” she said
The influx of nose masks comes on the back of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council’s (REGSEC) announcement of a compulsory face mask-wearing in the region.

The directive is in line with the region’s fight against the deadly novel coronavirus.
The Ashanti Regional Co-coordinating Council has also served notice of enforcing mandatory nose mask-wearing.
But the FDA is of the view that the mask must be of standard quality.
“The nose masks are supposed to be worn for a purpose so it’s not that you should wear just a nose mask, but you should wear nose mask that filters.” Narkie Terlabie said.
