FDA shuts down 16 eateries in Accra

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, closed down 16 food service establishments in the Greater Accra Region that were operating without valid hygiene permits.

The establishments that were affected were shut down for failing to comply with regulatory standards.

Among them are The Cheesecake House, Dolce Frizzante, Onda, and Alora Beach Resort.

This action was taken following a two-week public notice from the FDA, which warned that starting February 1, 2026, all food service establishments lacking a valid Food Hygiene Permit would face closure.

The announcement was shared in a post on the FDA’s official Facebook page.

The Authority reiterated its dedication to safeguarding public health and ensuring that all food service providers adhere strictly to approved hygiene standards.

This directive encompasses a wide array of food-related businesses, including restaurants, lounges, hotels, chop bars, snack bars, food vans, bakeries, event caterers, online food vendors, and canteens located in schools, hospitals, and offices.
