The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has announced the recall of Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte products, specifically the Tetra Pak (250ml) and Canned (330ml Pétillante) versions.
This decision comes after these products were identified in the Ghanaian market and promoted on social media.
The FDA indicates that this recall is essential due to the importer’s violation of Sections 97, 98, and 103 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), as these products lack proper registration with the authority.
Consequently, their sale and distribution are deemed illegal.
Additionally, the FDA pointed out that the packaging and sizes of these products may mislead consumers, especially posing a risk of accidental alcohol consumption by children, which could jeopardise their health and safety.
As a precaution, the FDA advises consumers to refrain from purchasing or consuming these unregistered products.
Retailers and wholesalers are also instructed to immediately stop distributing and selling these items.
“All stocks of the recalled products should be returned to the nearest outlets of Cave and Garden Ghana Limited or the FDA’s offices across the country,” the FDA announced in a statement.
Reiterating its dedication to ensuring public health and safety, the FDA mentioned that the importer has faced sanctions, and regulatory measures are being put in place to guarantee compliance.
The public is encouraged to report any information related to the sale of these products through the FDA’s official communication channels, including www.fdaghana.gov.gh, phone lines (0551112224/5), or email (fda@fda.gov.gh).
