FDA, CPA crackdown on fake, contaminated baby diapers

Officials from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), in partnership with the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA), have initiated a comprehensive operation across the Ashanti Region to confiscate substandard, expired, and counterfeit baby diapers from the market.

Authorities indicate that the seized diapers present significant health hazards to both infants and consumers.

This collaborative effort is a result of intelligence gathering, thorough market monitoring, and laboratory testing performed on various diaper brands.

Officials emphasised that infants, who are especially susceptible to microbial infections, face the highest level of risk.

Nana Prempeh Okogyeabour Aduhene, the Executive Director of CPA responsible for Mediation and Arbitration, commended the FDA for its partnership and reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to protecting consumers.

He remarked that although regulatory agencies are striving to fulfil their responsibilities, the situation is exacerbated by porous borders that facilitate the entry of counterfeit products.
