Farmer butchers cousin for refusing to marry him
A 35-year-old farmer, Kpeyiri Neiba, is in the grips of the police in the Sawla Tuna Kalba District of the Savannah Region for the alleged murder of his 50-year-old cousin.
The suspect allegedly killed the victim, Janet Ansaaku, in a bush at Uro-Mekaa near Kalba after refusing to marry him.
It is the fourth murder of a woman by close relatives in the community in six months.
The Public Relations Officer of the Savannah Regional Police Command, Inspector Adjei Owusu, explained that the police received a complaint about a murder incident.
A team was dispatched to the scene, only to find the deceased lying in a pool of blood.
He also said that the deceased, dressed in a black skirt with a white top, was found with a deep cut on her head.
The deceased’s body was deposited at Sawla District Hospital for autopsy, and subsequently, the suspect, Mr Neiba was arrested.
Inspector Owusu said that, the suspect, during interrogation, “confessed to the crime stating that the deceased refused to marry him.”
A postmortem has been completed at the Sawla Tuna Kalba District Hospital and the body has been released to the bereaved family for burial.
The police have subsequently called on local chiefs and opinion leaders to team up to tackle such crimes.
