Farmer Accused Of Fatally Stabbing Girlfriend Remanded In Police Custody
A 26-year-old farmer has been remanded in police custody for allegedly killing his girlfriend at Trom, a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
The suspect, Godwin Darko, is expected to reappear on July 4, 2023, while investigations into the case continue.
According to the prosecution, the suspect, who had been in a six-month relationship with the lady, Felicia Abena Oparebea, allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the neck during a heated argument over an aborted pregnancy.
The attack resulted in her immediate death.
The prosecution said Darko, after fleeing the scene of the crime, sought solace in his mother, who happens to be the Queen Mother of Suhum Nifa Ankobea.
Subsequently, he willingly turned himself in, providing information about the incident.
The prosecution, led by Sergeant George Defia, informed the court that the team had yet to retrieve the murder weapon and a set of keys believed to have been used in the crime.
The Koforidua Magistrate Court is yet to take Darko’s plea on the matter.
The trial judge Nana Ama Dabbah Fynn, warned that unnecessary delays would not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, Nana Dede Klottey, the Suhum Nifa Ankobea Hemaa, called for calm, urging both families to prioritize a smooth burial process for the deceased.
