Famous airline introduces special facilities for women — the first in aviation history

Similar solutions, allowing women to choose seats next to other women, are already available on Indian buses and trains.

These changes will be implemented on all IndiGo flights from August [BI]

Indian low-cost airline, IndiGo has changed its seat reservation system to allow women to choose the gender of their seatmate, a world-first initiative that aims to make female passengers more comfortable and encourage them to travel more often.

When booking a seat, women will be able to check the gender of passengers who have already booked their seats. Seats occupied by women will be marked in pink. Men, on the other hand, will not have access to this information and will only be able to check which seats are already occupied.

These changes will be implemented on all IndiGo flights from August. The airline’s innovative approach comes after market research that showed that such a facility would increase the comfort of women travellers.

“IndiGo is proud to announce a new feature that aims to make travelling more comfortable for our female passengers. The feature will be introduced based on market research and is in line with our #GirlPower policy,” reads the statement, as quoted by CNN.

This is not the first such initiative in India, however. Similar solutions, allowing women to choose seats next to other women, are already available on Indian buses and trains.
