The family of 26-year-old Felix Azibodzi is demanding a probe after he died in police custody.

He was allegedly arrested at Avamadalekui, in the Ziope area of the Volta Region, in connection with a robbery incident on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

The family did not know of his arrest until the police informed them two days later.

“Two days after he left home, about 13 police officers led by the commander came here to look for the father. I called out the father from the room, and we sat down with the police, who informed us that they had invited Felix for interrogation and arrested him.

“They went on to inform us that a day after his arrest, he complained of ill health and was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he passed on,” Michael Azibodzi, an uncle of the deceased, said.

However, the family alleged that an inspection of his body at the morgue revealed that he was tortured.

“We were not told Felix had an accident, but we were left distraught and disgusted when we went to view the body at the morgue. He had bruises on his back, one of his arms disjointed, and his legs fractured,” the uncle disclosed.

The family also alleged that health workers at the hospital told them their son was brought in dead.

They are, therefore, calling on the police administration to ensure that the incident is investigated and justice is served.
