Falling tree kills 2 women after heavy rains at Nkyeraa.

Two women have been confirmed dead after a tree fell on them at Nkyeraa in the Bono Region, after a heavy downpour on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

The deceased persons are identified as 65-year-old Maame Yaa Awua and Georgina Opoku aged 67.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 4 pm during the annual Yam Festival celebration.

The bodies have been deposited at the Nkyeraa Hospital mortuary.

It will be recalled that in May this year, a similar situation resulted in injuries after a tree fell on an SUV vehicle and a motorcycle at Cantonment, near the Italian Embassy in Ghana.

The incident happened after torrential rainfall in several parts of Accra on Monday, May 6.

The heavy wind caused the tree to uproot, slamming into the front of the Toyota SUV with registration number GE- 685-14 and directly on the motor rider.

Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service (GHNFS) swiftly arrived at the scene.

Using chainsaws, they worked to lift the tree and removed the vehicles that were trapped beneath.
