A 45-year-old man is currently in police grips for selling fake and unwholesome drugs to the unsuspecting public.
The unregistered drug dealer, who is the owner of God’s Blessing Herbal operates in Wa and its environs.
He was arrested on the authority of the Upper West Food and Drugs Authority personnel upon a tip-off.
According to the Acting Upper West Regional Director of Food and Drugs Authority Kelvin Dafaari his outfit had a tip-off from the Wa Magazine, where the alleged drug dealer had been plying his trade.
“So, we traced and went to the Wa Magazine, but then he bolted when he saw us. We mounted surveillance on him. We caught him around 9 pm. We brought him to this place [his residence] where he has been manufacturing the drugs. Initially, he was very resistant but we implored all our techniques and he brought us here.
“When he brought us here, we saw that he was in a single room. He does the production and everything in that same room,” he said.
Further investigations revealed that the 45-year-old man started the act in the Wenchi Municipality where he claimed the market was not good, and thus the relocation to the Upper West Region.
When asked by the authority if the product was registered, the suspect replied in the affirmative.
“He even told us the product was registered. When we asked for the registration certificate or the registration letter from the FDA, he [fake drug dealer] gave us a programme agenda of an FDA programme he attended in the Bono Region. That was what he was showing to people to convince them that his product was certified.
“Also, when we checked the product we realised that it is one product that is in different containers and he is using different labels. So, one product but he is marketing them as a cure for different conditions,” he said in a Joynews interview monitored by theghanareport.com.
The Acting Upper West Regional Director of Food and Drugs Authority further urged the public to be wary of buying drugs from individuals who have not been licensed to operate.
