‘Fake doctor’ busted at KATH

A 26-year-old man has been arrested for impersonating a medical doctor at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, Williams Cyril Kohen, was busted after hospital staff raised an alarm over his suspicious behaviour.

Dressed in scrubs with his name displayed on it, he was reportedly seen lurking around the Chest Clinic and Accident and Emergency Block on Monday, September 4, 2023, until the director of nursing confronted him.

He initially claimed he was a doctor but after further probe, he became jittery and took to his heels.

However, he was apprehended by the security of the facility who handed him over to the hospital’s police post.

They later sent him to the Central Police Command for further investigations.

In October 2022, another man who presented himself as a medical officer at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Surgical Department was arrested and arraigned.

The businessman, Daniel Yartey, aka Doctor, had allegedly given injections to some clients although he confessed that he was neither licensed nor registered to practice medicine.

The prosecution said some of the patients he treated later developed complications.

Yartey was charged for willfully and falsely using the title doctor, practicing medicine without registering with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council, and receiving payment for the practice of medicine without being registered.
