Faith Aku Dzakpasu, a teacher at the Greta “D” Shepherd Basic School in the Ga Central District, Greater Accra Region, has emerged as the national best teacher for 2023.
She was awarded a three-bedroom house worth GH₵450,000 for being the Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year.
Besides her daily teaching routine, Faith Aku Dzakpasu is known for supporting girls by ensuring they have access to essential menstrual hygiene products through her ‘Pad Bank’ project.
She also motivates students to attend school regularly and promotes academic performance.
The first runner-up prize went to Isabella Wussah-Tetteh, who teaches at the Sege D/A Primary & KG School in the Greater Accra Region.
The teacher awards ceremony was held at the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) auditorium in the Western Region, with many personalities in attendance, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, who was the special guest of honour.
In a speech, President Akufo-Addo expressed his profound gratitude to teachers working tirelessly to ensure that Ghana achieves Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on providing quality education to students and being pioneered by the government.
Over the years, other teachers from various basic, junior and senior high schools were honoured for their enormous service.
In 2022, the overall national best teacher prize went to Ms. Stella Gyimaah Larbi, who teaches at the Adenta Community Junior High School.
She also received a three-bedroom house worth GH¢300,000 for being the most outstanding teacher for 2022.
