Facts about new Assemblies of God General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam

In what may be described as a walk of dignity, he approached the podium to deliver his message of appreciation and immediate plans regarding his new mandate in grand style.

He beamed with smiles Amidst loud cheers from the crowd of mostly his supporters who believed it was simply time for a new dawn in the history of Assemblies of God, Ghana.

This, must have been the crowning moment after decades of dedicated service executed with diligence in the Lord’s vineyard.

Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, affectionately called LP by members of the Cedar Mountain Chapel Assemblies of God International, has been elected the new General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana.

The love for ‘Kingdom Work’ seems to have been infused in the DNA of the young, vibrant and humble man of God since infancy.

His well developed affinity for Christ as a child catapulted him into discipleship and a strong passion to lead God’s flock. This seems to have been brewed in heaven into his lineage as he was born into a family of unflinching Christians.

But who is Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam?

Amidst a flood of congratulatory messages from sources across the globe, The Ghana Report brings you some facts you may not have known about the man of God who has risen through the ranks in humility.

FACT

1. He is one of the very few men of God who remain open-minded and readily embrace science and technology evolution.

2. He established the Cedar Mountain Chapel a little over a decade ago and transformed the House of God with a 10-year strategic plan rarely seen in Ghanaian churches.

3. He makes the bible relevant to modern Christian living and upholds excellence. So it was no surprise that the Cedar Mountain Chapel Won the 2022 Church Of Excellence Award.

4. His intellect, vision and drive resulted in establishing the Professional Network, Prime Insurance Company and other initiatives to reposition the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana.

5. Rev Wengam spearheaded a 10-year strategic plan and a trust fund to execute his brainchild dubbed ‘Project Efiase’ as the Chairman of the Ghana Prisons Service Council, aimed at transforming correctional facilities across Ghana.

6. He was born to lead as he was either a prefect or assigned a leadership role throughout his schooling days – from Teshie Estate Preparatory School to the University of Ghana.

7. Rev. Wengam was born to the late Matthew K. Wengam and Mrs Deborah Wengam on 19 September 1972 at Tema Community Four.

8. The Lead Pastor of the Cedar Mountain International Church who is also now General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana hails from Paknatik in the Bunkpurugu Yoyoo District in the North East Region.

9. He struggled as a child after the tragic death of all his three siblings, barely before he turned six years.

10. As young as five, he would assemble other children and emulate Jesus preaching to multitudes.

11. Rev. Wengam gave his life to Christ at the young age of 13 in 1985.

12. He married as a virgin at age 28.

13. The humble man of God will likely make the cut for the ‘Hall of Faith’ with a steadfast belief in God, having to wait 14 years after marriage before the union was blessed with two children.

14. He is patriotic and unquestionably loves the Ghanaian culture, hence a rich display of the Ghanaian culture during certain programs on the church calendar: most notably the annual Ghana day celebration.
