An explosion at a manufacturing factory has killed two persons and left five others critically injured along the Spintex Road in Accra.
According to the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer for Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Ebenezer Yenzu, the incident occurred on Friday, May 10.
He said his outfit received a distress call at around 2:30 pm concerning a blast at the factory.
Fire personnel from the Kasapreko Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they discovered that the incident had occurred at Joyea Construction.
He said upon arrival, the fire officers were informed that an oxyacetylene tank had exploded.

“The incident occurred when, during one of their normal duties, an oxyacetylene tank used for welding ruptured,” DOIII Yenzu said.
This, he said, resulted in the deaths of two of the workers.
The five critically injured are currently on admission and receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
The PRO said the immediate cause of the explosion is still unknown.
However, he said the fire officers are investigating factors such as the tank’s positioning and potential leakages that may have contributed to the blast.
This comes after three relatives lost their lives while another sustained injuries in a gas explosion at Sepe, a suburb of Kumasi, in the Ashanti region three weeks ago.
The incident occurred after a gas leak from the six-kilogramme gas cylinder in the family’s kitchen.
Unaware of a coal pot at the back of the kitchen, one of the victims moved the cylinder behind the kitchen to inspect the leakage.
Unfortunately, this caused the cylinder to explode, killing the three instantly.
