Ex-Liverpool star Jordan Henderson set to leave Ajax

WHAT HAPPENED?

Henderson joined Ajax from Al-Ettifaq in January 2024 after spending just under six months with the Saudi Pro League side. With just days left of the 2025 winter transfer window, it has been claimed that Henderson is on the move again after an approach from Monaco.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Ajax are close to reaching an agreement with Monaco regarding a permanent transfer for Henderson. The report suggests that the former Liverpool captain is set to sign a one-and-a-half-year deal with the Ligue 1 club until the summer of 2026, linking up with USMNT star Folarin Balogun in the process.

DID YOU KNOW?

Despite Romano’s claims that a deal is close, Dutch publication Voetbal International reports that Ajax are reluctant to let Henderson go at the mid-way point of the season. The ex-Liverpool midfielder is open to the move, though, and hopes that Ajax will co-operate in negotiations with Monaco.

WHAT NEXT FOR HENDERSON?

With the winter transfer window set to shut on February 3, Monaco will have to work quick to settle the deal for Henderson. The former England international has been a key player for Ajax this season, racking up 31 appearances across all competitions.
