The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, has officially announced his decision to run for the Awutu Senya West seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a Facebook post on Thursday, July 13, Mr. Arhin expressed his long-standing desire to contribute to the progress of the constituency, currently held by the National Democratic Congress’ Gizella Tetteh.

“This is to confirm, officially, that I will be contesting the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party in the Awutu Senya West constituency in the Central Region. Win or lose, my commitment to ensuring the constituency returns to the fold of the NPP in 2024 is unwavering,” he stated.

The NPP has scheduled its parliamentary primaries to take place from Saturday, September 23, 2023, to December 2, 2023, specifically for the Orphan Constituencies across the country.

Orphan constituencies are constituencies where the party currently does not have a sitting Member of Parliament (MP).

Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates interested in contesting are required to obtain the nomination form upon payment of a non-refundable application fee of GH¢3,000.

The payment should be made in the form of a Bankers Draft, payable to the NPP National Headquarters in Accra.

Once successful candidates have obtained the nomination forms, they will need to pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢35,000.00 to the party.

However, in an effort to encourage increased representation of women, youth, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in higher political offices, such prospective aspiring parliamentary candidates will benefit from a 50% rebate on the filing fees.

As a result, they will only be required to pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢17,500.
