The Awutu Senya West New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned against blaming its parliamentary candidate, Eugene Arhin, for the arrests of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer and two others.
The Awutu Bereku District Court remanded the NDC official, Cassius Otoo Larbi and two others for removing posters of Eugene Arhin on some machines belonging to the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).
They also allegedly threatened to kill the witness who caught them in the act.
The suspects will reappear in court today [Monday, September 16, 2024].
Following their remand, the NDC parliamentary candidate and incumbent MP for the same constituency, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, raised concerns over the removal of her posters, describing the remand of her members as “petty”.
However, during a press conference, the Awutu Senya West NPP Constituency Communications Director, Ephraim Fiifi Aidoo, stated that the suspects were not remanded for removing the posters.
He said they were arraigned for threatening the witness and attempting to destroy the machines.
He also urged members of the NDC and the general public to stop attributing the arrests to Eugene Arhin and the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Awutu Senya West, Moses Arhinful.
Meanwhile, the DCE also appealed to the public to stop spreading falsehoods against him and damaging his reputation.
