Source The Ghana Report

Three more victims have succumbed to injuries sustained in a premix fuel explosion at Ngyiresia, a community in the Essikado-Ketan constituency.

This brings the number of fatalities to six.

The deceased persons have been identified as Daniela Cornelius, 14, Nurideen Morrison, 24, and Kojo Egyir, 55.

Daniela is said to have passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment in the early hours of Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Nurideen and Kojo, on the other hand, died on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

It will be recalled that the explosion occurred around 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, as fishermen were transporting gallons of premix fuel to their canoes along the beach.

Due to the lack of an access route from the main road to the beach, fishermen usually roll barrels of fuel on the ground to the beach. This method led to the explosion during transport.

The premix fuel leaked from some of the barrels to the ground and came into contact with fire used by fishmongers, leading to the explosion.

The blast also caused significant damage, destroying two vehicles and several nearby wooden structures.

Meanwhile, five injured victims have been discharged, while others continue to receive treatment.

The community remains in shock as police investigate the cause of the incident.
