The road from Esiama to Nkroful in the Western Region is 88% complete, according to Ernest Owusu Bempah, Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana National Gas Company.

The Ghana National Gas Company is financing the project as part of its corporate social responsibility to improve infrastructure at Nkroful, the maternal hometown of Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

“This is Kwame Nkrumah’s hometown, Nkroful. The road was in a deplorable state for over  45 years. It was under the Acheampong government that the road saw some maintenance but was destroyed again. But through the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Ghana Gas, we have been able to put that road there. Today, if you travel from Essiama to Nkroful, there is a first-class road which is 88 per cent complete”.

He added that the company is also providing recreational centres, including stadia, to support the people of Nzema.

“Go to Benyin and the sort of stadium we have built over there for the people of Nzema. The Nzema Kotoko stadium has been turned into AstroTurf. We are also building the biggest Trauma centre in the whole of West Africa,” he added.

The intervention of the state-owned company has become necessary following the deplorable state of the ceremonial road during the rainy season.

The current state of the road has affected not only social and economic activities in Ellembelle but also the activities of companies operating in the district.

The Ghana National Gas Company is undertaking the 6.5km block project, while the government is expected to hand over the remaining 20km to other contractors.
