EPL arch-rivals Liverpool and Everton to battle for Ghana star Kudus Mohammed ahead of winter transfer window
Liverpool will battle it out with direct rivals Everton for the purchase of Ghana star Kudus Mohammed ahead of the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old increased his stocks after a magnificent debut World Cup, scoring two goals and providing an assist in three matches.
His performances has seen him pop up on the radar of several clubs including Spanish giants Barcelona, but the Catalans won’t make a move for the player in the transfer window.
According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, Ajax will have a hard time keeping Kudus during the winter transfer period, as happened in August – to the frustration of the midfielder himself.
The midfielder was denied with a move to Everton in the summer after several offers from the Premier League club.
Kudus market value has skyrocketed after an impressive World Cup performance with the Black Stars.
Ajax will be demanding $40 million pounds for the midfielder, who has been used as a striker this season.
Footballghana.com can reveal that Liverpool sent scouts to watch the player during Ghana’s World Cup opener against Portugal.
“Kudus was of course angry that Ajax did not want to talk to Everton,” Verweij recalls. “Now Liverpool has also entered the market. Two clubs from one country bidding against each other is already nice, but if two arch-rivals start bidding against each other, Gerry Hamstra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar may just hold hands and again bring in a huge bag of money.”
Kudus joined Ajax from FC Nordjaelland for a fee around 9 million euros. He is under contract until 2025.
