The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in the Eastern Region has undertaken a significant enforcement operation in Osino, located in the Fanteakwa South District, aimed at addressing illegal mining activities and unlicensed enterprises.
Throughout this operation, the EPA confiscated numerous excavators and wheel loaders believed to be associated with illicit activities. Both Chinese-owned and local businesses engaged in the sale of mining equipment and Changfan machine parts without appropriate permits were closed down.
Additionally, welding and fabrication centres that manufacture Changfan components were also shut.
Heavy machinery discovered at illegal mining locations was seized and transported to the EPA’s regional office for proper documentation.
Sydney Kweku Danso, the Regional EPA Director who oversaw the operation, stated that the Authority will enhance its efforts in accordance with the nationwide prohibition on the use of Changfan machines. He stressed that no political influence or appeals will protect violators, asserting that the operation will be strict and unwavering.
Danso encouraged individuals and businesses to adhere to EPA regulations to ensure the protection of their operations and the environment.
He further mentioned that additional communities in the Eastern Region are anticipated to be targeted in the upcoming days as the enforcement initiative progresses.
