English Premier League club set to announce signing Ghanaian defender Salisu

Ghanaian defender, Mohammed Salisu, is set to join English Premier League side Southampton on a four-year contract after the Saints met his release clause.

The 21-year-old central defender becomes Southampton’s first signing of the summer transfer window. He will officially join Ralph Hasenhüttl‘s side on July 27, when the window opens, the UK media DailyMail reported.

The left-footed center-back who currently plays for Spanish side Real Valladolid was on the transfer radar of some European clubs like Manchester United and West Ham.

He joined Valladolid’s youth setup in 2017 and has featured in 31 LaLiga games for the club in the ongoing league season, scoring a goal and provided an assist.

His contribution this season has earned Real Valladolid a 13th place finish and the league’s 5th rank best defence.

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah gave the young promising star his first call-up to the senior national team for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principle, but he missed out due to injury.
