Engage NCA or risk fallout – CUTS warns MultiChoice
The West African Regional Director of CUTS International, Appiah Kusi Adomako, has urged MultiChoice Ghana to initiate constructive dialogue with the National Communications Authority (NCA), following the regulator’s 30-day notice of suspension.
On Thursday, August 7, the NCA announced its intention to suspend MultiChoice Ghana’s authorisation to operate its Subscription Management Service for Satellite Television Broadcasting.
The company has been given 30 days to respond and regularise its operations.
In an interview, Mr. Adomako emphasised the need for open and collaborative engagement to resolve the matter in a way that protects both national interests and the company’s operations.
“Dialogue is the most productive path forward. A mutual understanding between the NCA and MultiChoice will serve the best interests of the country and the company. If MultiChoice exits Ghana, it could lead to revenue losses for the government and significant job cuts. MultiChoice, in turn, would face major financial setbacks,” he explained.
He encouraged MultiChoice to take full advantage of the 30-day window to present a comprehensive proposal to the government that could lead to a workable resolution.
“This is a crucial opportunity. MultiChoice should act swiftly and submit a proposal for the government’s consideration,” Mr. Adomako added.
