Emotional tributes pour in at vigil night for late Mawuli Semevo

It was a sorrowful scene filled with emotional tributes as industry persons gathered at the National Theatre for a vigil in honour of the late veteran actor Mawuli Yao Semevo.

The actor passed away on February 20, 2025, after suffering severe burns in a fire accident at his home.

On March 27, 2025 at a vigil night, Semevo was honoured for his immense talent, contributions and dedication to the movie industry.

Veteran actor David Dontoh, delivering a tribute on behalf of Ghollywood players, recalled the life-long friendship he shared with Mawuli while he grieved the late actor.

Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, James Gardiner, also spoke on behalf of the authority, acknowledging the late actor’s enduring legacy.

Fred Amugi and fellow veteran actors performed a touching choral piece, while a cultural troupe delivered a traditional dirge in Semevo’s honor.

Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, and veteran actress Irene Opare were in attendance, paying tribute to a man whose impact on the creative arts will never be forgotten.

Other notable figures, including Catherine Afeku, Edinam Atatsi, Akofa Edjeani, and Inspector Bediako, graced the event.
