Embrace rivals ahead of 2028 elections – Osei Owusu to Bawumia

The Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Joseph Osei Owusu, has urged the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to unite with and embrace the other candidates who participated in the party’s presidential primaries.

Dr. Bawumia secured victory in the primaries with 56.48 percent of the votes, while his nearest rival, former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, received 23.76 percent.

In remarks made following the announcement of results, Mr. Osei Owusu encouraged the former Vice President to move beyond merely celebrating his win and to exhibit leadership by uniting all factions of the party in preparation for the 2028 general elections.

“We urge H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia not only to rejoice in his success but also to show generosity. Embrace all fellow contestants and unite the entire party for the significant challenge that lies ahead in the 2028 general elections. The delegates have faith in your ability to achieve this,” he stated.

He also praised the other candidates for their involvement and contributions to the party’s growth and unity, characterizing the contest as competitive yet peaceful.

The four additional candidates who participated in the primaries included former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong; former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong; former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
