Elisha Owusu opens up on representing Ghana, sharing the same pitch with Andre Ayew

Auxerre midfielder Elisha Owusu says it is a blessing to represent Ghana at the international level. 

Born in France to Ghanaian parents, Owusu represented the European nation at youth levels before deciding to switch nationalities.

The former Olympique Lyonnais was part of Ghana’s team at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

“For me it’s a good thing to play for my country. I am very happy to go on international duty. When I was a kid I always dreamt of playing for my country. I take it like as a blessing,” he told Flashscore.

Owusu grew up idolising Kevin-Prince Boateng and Black Stars captain Andre Ayew. He ended up sharing the pitch with the ex-Marseille star, a player he says is a ‘big big’ man in France.

“Growing up I used to watch Kevin-Prince Boateng a lot. I loved him as a kid. Andre Ayew also because when you’re from France he is the ‘big big’ man. Having the chance to play with him in the national team was a big honour for me,” he added.
