Electoral violence a stain on Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s legacy – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned the violence that erupted during the NPP super delegates congress on Saturday, August 26.

According to the former president, this is a blot on the legacies of both President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Referencing the alarming electoral violence that marred Ayawaso West Wuogon in 2019, as well as the tragic murder of eight innocent citizens in 2020, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer expressed his deep concerns in a Facebook post.

“It would appear that violence has become the new normal for the NPP in any electoral contest they are involved in. Acts of volence during what should be a peaceful civic exercise must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

“Such brutal acts have no place in modern society, especially during an internal contest among persons who belong to the same party and have known each other for many years.

“This is detrimental to democracy. The barbarity of Ayawaso West Wuogon in 2019 and the murder of eight innocent Ghanaians during the 2020 elections will forever be a blot on the legacy of President Akufo-Addo and VP Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.

Mr Mahama’s post is in relation to the North East regional coordinator for Alan Kyerematen, Ali Zakaria, who was reportedly attacked during the congress.
