Election Watch Ghana, an advocacy group, gathered at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters on Monday, August 19, 2024, demanding the immediate release of the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) to political parties.

The Convenor of Election Watch Ghana, Mark Ewusi, expressed his frustration outside the EC headquarters, stating, “We all know that per the calendar of the Electoral Commission, tomorrow is said to be the day for the exhibition, and it is very prudent for political parties to get hold of the provisional register so that we can scrutinize it for the exercise tomorrow.”

Ewusi emphasized the importance of releasing the register, saying, “Unfortunately for us, we got here and the commissioners themselves and the workers had not resumed work.”

The group’s protest comes after the EC failed to meet its earlier assurances to publish the provisional voter register, a requirement under the Constitutional Instrument governing the 2024 elections.

The delay has raised concerns among opposition parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and other stakeholders in the upcoming general elections.

Election Watch Ghana’s demand for the immediate release of the PVR aims to ensure the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.
