President Akufo-Addo has reiterated the unwavering commitment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to democratic principles.
Speaking at the 51st Methodist Church Conference in Kumasi on Thursday, August 29, 2024, the outgoing President emphasized that the NPP has no intention of rigging the 2024 election as speculated by opposition parties, especially the National Democratic Congress(NDC).
He also assured Ghanaians that his government is fully dedicated to ensuring that the elections are conducted peacefully and transparently during and after the process.
“As far as the ruling NPP is concerned, the party is borne from the noble Danquah-Busia-Dombo political tradition which spearheaded the national resistance to authoritarian one-party rule…Rigging is not part of our DNA.”
“The Akufo-Addo-led NPP government is clear about its obligation and duty to ensure that the impending election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace and security and enforce transparency and respect for the electoral laws of our country,” he stated.
The president further dismissed fears of election manipulation, asserting that the free will of the Ghanaian people will prevail and not the desires of any political entity.
He also expressed confidence in the security agencies, emphasizing their role in maintaining order during the elections.
“I am confident that the security agencies will be allowed to bear their responsibilities and will ensure that the free will of the Ghanaian people in their choice for national leadership will be manifest, free of violence and intimidation.
“I am certain that the behaviour of the Ghanaian people and the government of public authorities will put to shame all the naysayers, all the Jeremiahs, including, unfortunately, some persons of the cloth who, instead of preaching peace, are bent on raising election-rigging. They will be disappointed. The 2024 elections will be conducted peacefully,” he added.
