The vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has cast her vote in the ongoing presidential and parliamentary elections.

She voted at the  M.A. JHS A polling station in Komenda in the Central region.

Speaking to the media after voting, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the peaceful nature of the electoral process and hoped that this calm atmosphere would prevail throughout the day.

She took the opportunity to encourage citizens to exercise their democratic rights, highlighting the critical role of voting in determining Ghana’s path forward.

She emphasised that every eligible voter should actively contribute to the country’s democratic journey by participating in the polls.

“I want those who are home and not interested in coming out to vote, turn out to come and vote. They should come and vote for change in leadership for the progress of the country,” she stated.

Voting has started across Ghana as the nation embarks on its highly anticipated general election to elect a president and 276 parliamentarians.

As has been the case, the election is a contest between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as the two have shared the presidential seat for the last 32 years.

Other contestants in the race include Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr. (Great Consolidated Popular Party), George Twum-Barima-Adu (Independent), Hassan Abdulai Ayariga (All People’s Congress), Kofi Akpaloo (Liberal Party of Ghana), Mohammed Frimpong (National Democratic Party), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa (Convention People’s Party), and Kofi Koranteng (Independent).

A candidate needs at least 50 per cent plus one of the total valid votes cast to win the presidential race.

However, a simple majority is needed to determine the winner in the parliamentary contest.
