Election 2024: Mahama, Bawumia to file presidential nominations today
Two leading presidential candidates, have revealed their intention to file their nomination forms for the 2024 presidential election today, Monday, September 9, 2024.
The two candidates are National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a Facebook post, Mr Mahama said “My nomination forms as Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Vice Presidential Candidate, will be formally submitted to the Electoral Commission on Monday at 2.00 pm.
“The submission of the forms by our National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, represents a pivotal step in our campaign for change on December 7. We are all in this together, working with Ghanaians to RESET Ghana’s economy and ‘Build the Ghana we want together’.”
A statement signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong confirmed Dr Bawumia’s decision to file on Monday.
Dr. Bawumia will be accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and other party leaders.
After filing his nomination, Dr. Bawumia is expected to address party sympathizers and the general public at the NPP’s national headquarters at 9:00 am.
The NPP has invited party members and the general public to participate in what it describes as a “historic moment of POSSIBILITY in Ghana’s Next Chapter.
The upcoming elections in Ghana on the 7th of December are highly significant. This election carries high stakes as the ruling NPP, led by Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, aims to defy the tradition of power alternation between the NPP and the NDC every eight years.
On the other hand, the NDC, under the leadership of former President John Mahama, is making a strong comeback and is determined not to face defeat for the third time after losses in the 2016 and 2020 elections to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
