The Electoral Commission (EC) has cancelled its contract with Yasarko Printing Press Limited, which was initially selected to print presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the Oti and Western North regions in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
In a press release, the EC announced that the printing tasks will now be handled by Buck Press Limited for the Oti region and Acts Commercials Limited for the Western North region.
This decision follows concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) about transparency and fairness in the election preparation process.
The NDC questioned Yasarko Printing Press’s capacity and impartiality, calling for assurances from the EC to prevent potential ballot tampering.
The umbrella party further demanded rigorous oversight of all contracted printing firms.
The EC began printing notices of poll and ballot papers on October 11, 2024, amid heightened scrutiny from political parties and civil society organizations.
The NDC emphasized the need for vigilance in the ballot production process, especially in regions with closely contested seats.
In the press release signed by Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations Samuel Tettey, the EC reiterated its commitment to transparency and impartiality.
The commission assured stakeholders of its intent to oversee all contracted firms equally to safeguard the integrity of the election.
It emphasized that Buck Press Limited and Acts Commercials Limited will be held to the same high standards to ensure the security and accuracy of the ballot papers.
