Election 2024: Bawumia picks number 1, Mahama is number 8 on ballot paper

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken the top position on the ballot paper for the upcoming December 7, presidential elections.

The NPP’s Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, picked the party’s number during the Electoral Commission’s (EC) balloting event held in Accra on Friday.

The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), took the 8th position, while the All People’s Congress (APC) candidate, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga, secured the 9th spot.

Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) picked number 5, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) took the 7th position.

Independent candidates for the forthcoming presidential election on December 7, 2024, were also given their places on the ballot paper after the Electoral Commission (EC) balloting process on September 20, 2024.

The independent candidate Kofi Koranteng secured the 10th position, while George Twum Barima will appear in the 11th spot. The Movement for Change will be listed last at number 13, while the New Force Movement, led by Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar), has been placed in the 12th position.

The forthcoming election will be a vibrant contest as both political parties and independent candidates compete for the presidency as these independent candidates take on the nine eligible political parties.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified 11 candidates from contesting in the December 7 presidential elections.

The aspirants affected include Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP).

Other presidential candidates disqualified by the EC include Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr Samuel Sampong Ankrah and Nii Amu Darko.

The rest are Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, and Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).

Deputy Chairman of Operations of the EC, Samuel Tettey, made this disclosure during an update on the status of candidates following the submission of their respective forms which took place from September 9 to September 13, 2024.
