Elected parliamentary candidates can help NPP to ‘Break the 8’ – President Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo is confident of a resounding victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections after the party completed its primaries on Saturday.

The NPP has its full set of parliamentary candidates after polls to elect parliamentary candidates in areas where they have their sitting MPs to complete the set elected in orphan constituencies a few months ago.

While the party lost a significant number of veterans, there is a pool of youthful additions that will be the future of the party.

In a message to congratulate the party on Sunday, June 28, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the “good blend of experienced and youthful parliamentary candidates”.

With a hung parliament of an equal number of NPP and NDC parliamentarians and a bid to break the jink of an eight-year cycle of power for political parties, President Akufo-Addo was optimistic about the chances of their candidates securing “a majority for the NPP in the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic, and help return an NPP presidential candidate into office on January 7 2025.”

“I extend warm congratulations to the rank and file of the party and applaud all stakeholders—the national, regional, constituency, electoral area and polling station executives of the party, the Electoral Commission, the security services and the media —for a job well done,” he added.
