Barima Osei Hwedie II, the Ejurahene, has destooled one of his sub-chiefs for allegedly aiding some nomadic herdsmen in armed robbery attacks in the Ejura Traditional Area.

The chief, Nana Obiri Yeboah of Miminaso No. 2, was destooled on Sunday, November 27, 2022, after the killing of a police officer.

He was attacked by some suspected armed robbers on November 25, 2022, between Miminaso no.2 and Nyamebekyere on the Ejura-Nkoranza road in the Ashanti region.

In his efforts to restore calm to the area, the Ejurahene called for an emergency meeting with security agencies, chiefs, and residents of Miminaso No.1 and No. 2 on Sunday following rampant robbery attacks.

During the meeting, the residents accused the nomadic herdsmen of being responsible for the robbery attacks in the community.

One of the residents of Minimaso No. 2 claimed he had encountered some herdsmen possessing AK47 rifles on his farm.

He said his reports to some authorities in the town were ignored.

Barima Osei Hwedie II said his decision to destool Nana Obiri Yeboah was entrenched in his failure to open up to the traditional council on the presence of the herders in the community.

He insisted that he had instructed the chief not to allow the herders to settle in the area.

He directed the Assembly Member of the area, the Zongo chief, and the Chief Imam to be caretakers of the area until a substantive chief is chosen.

Meanwhile, police have arrested one person in connection with the killing of the 29-year-old police officer.

They are also pursuing his accomplices, who are currently on the run.

According to a police statement, “The name of the deceased is being withheld until his family is formally notified of his demise, in line with our standard operating procedure and respect for Ghanaian tradition.”

“The suspect is in custody and will be arraigned before the court to face justice,”  it added.

Police say the manhunt for the remaining suspects has also been intensified, and they will be arrested.
