Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, and eight others have so far picked forms to contest the NPP parliamentary primary for the Ejisu constituency.

Other candidates include Abena Pokuaa Boaitey, popularly known as ‘Ejisu Broni’; Portia Acheampong Abronye, wife of NPP Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe ‘Abronye’; Presiding Member (PM) of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, Helena Mensah; and Kingsley Karikari Mensah.

The rest are Aaron Prince Duah, Maame Yaa Aboagyewaa, Kwabena Boateng and Dr Evans Duah.

Supporters rallied behind the aspiring candidates as they obtained their forms from the Ejisu NPP office.

The move follows the opening of nomination and the unfortunate passing of Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Ejisu, Dr John Kumah, on Thursday, March 7.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, earlier outlined the nomination process, indicating that interested candidates could acquire and submit their forms at the constituency party office between April 2 and April 4, 2024.

Aspiring parliamentary candidates were required to pay an application fee of GHȼ3,000 and a non-refundable filing fee of GHȼ35,000.

However, in a bid to promote inclusivity, women, youth aged between 18 and 40, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) received a 50% discount on the filing fees, reducing their fee to GHȼ17,500.

As the nomination period draws to a close on Thursday, April 4, all aspirants are optimistic about their chances of securing a spot on the ballot.

Meanwhile, the NPP primary has been set for April 13, 2024.
