Voters in the Ejisu constituency have begun casting their ballots in the highly anticipated by-election to fill the vacant seat left by the late MP, John Kumah.
The late lawmaker and deputy Finance Minister passed away after a short illness on March 7, 2024.
The electoral exercise is taking place across 204 polling centres, providing an opportunity for the 106,812 registered voters to participate in the democratic process.
The spotlight is on the NPP candidate, Kwabena Boateng, and former MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who is running independently after parting ways with the NPP.
Joining the fray are Esther Osei representing the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), as well as independent candidates Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph.
Notably absent from the electoral contest is the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which opted out of the by-election.
Meanwhile, heavy security deployment has been witnessed across the constituency to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and ensure peace and order prevail.
Voting is expected to continue until 5 pm, with constituents eagerly awaiting the outcome that will determine their new Member of Parliament.
