Egypt become third African Nation to qualify to 2026 FIFA World Cup

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah led by example to seal Egypt’s qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup thanks to a 3-0 win over Djibouti.

Egypt become the third African nation to book its spot in next year’s tournament after Morocco and Tunisia sealed their places in the previous round.

Salah scored twice in the game with his first coming in the 14th minute with his second sealing the big win in the 84th minute. Ibrahim Abel opened the scoring in the ninth minute.

The win put Egypt firmly in the lead in Group A with 23 points with just a game left to be played in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Egypt’s closest challenger, Burkina Faso, rank second in the standings with 18 points with a big chance to qualify to compete in the playoffs as one of the best second ranked nations.

The playoffs will determine the country that progresses to compete in an intercontinental playoffs for the non-automatic qualification spots.

In nine qualification games, Salah has nine goals and three assists but is unlikely to play against Guinea Bissua on October 12 to close out the qualifiers. Burkina Faso take on Ethiopia.
