Edmond Kombat appointed new MD of Tema Oil Refinery

Edmond Kombat has been named the new Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), assuming leadership of Ghana’s flagship oil refinery at a critical juncture.

This appointment is seen as a strategic move to reinvigorate the refinery, which has faced prolonged operational and financial challenges.

With extensive experience in the oil and energy sectors, Edmond Kombat is well-positioned to lead TOR’s turnaround.

The refinery, once a key pillar of Ghana’s industrial framework, has struggled with inefficiencies, limiting its ability to meet domestic and regional energy demands.

In his new role, Mr Kombat will focus on restructuring and modernizing TOR’s operations.

His mandate includes securing private-sector partnerships to attract capital and technical expertise essential for the refinery’s revitalization.

About Edmond Kombat

Edmond Kombat is a seasoned lawyer, entrepreneur, and Pan-Africanist with a distinguished career spanning multiple industries.

He holds a First Class Honours degree from the University of Ghana and an LL.B from the GIMPA Faculty of Law.

He obtained his BL and QCL qualifications from the Ghana School of Law, as well as a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard University.

He also completed the Securities Industry Course with the Ghana Stock Exchange, demonstrating a commitment to academic and professional excellence.

Kombat’s career in finance and energy includes roles as a Financial Analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London, an Energy Analyst at TOR, and a Business and Energy Analyst at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).

His expertise was further refined during his time as a Research Assistant at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at Harvard Kennedy School.

In addition to his analytical and legal expertise, Kombat is a successful entrepreneur.

He is the Founder and Chairman of the Edkom Group of Companies, which spans industries such as agribusiness, energy, real estate, and precious minerals.

As Co-Founder and Director of Research and Finance at the Institute for Energy Security (IES), Mr Kombat has championed energy research, policy advocacy, and financial sustainability within the industry.
