Economic Fighters League opens its arms to out-of-favour NPP man, Nii Noi Nortey
Ghana’s left-wing political movement, Economic Fighters League has expressed solidarity to one-time NPP parliamentary candidate Nii Noi Nortey who fell out with his party ahead of the 2016 general elections.
“We open our arms to Nii Noi Nortey and all young people in all political parties. They will always have a political home in the Economic Fighters League,” a statement signed by Fighter-General Hardi Yakubu read.
The statement summarizes an acrimonious NPP parliamentary primaries in the Korle
Klottey constituency in the Greater Accra region in August 2015 between Nii Noi Nortey and Philip Addison, a close associate to then NPP presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.

After losing to Philip Addison is a heated re-run in February 2016, he defied party advice and went independent, a move which he has said he regrets.
“I want to use this opportunity to ask for forgiveness and especially from my political godfather – former President J.A Kufuor. He even called me to rescind my decision [to go independent] but there were a lot of circumstances on the ground which didn’t allow that,” he was quoted as saying in May 2017.
Nii Noi has since been fighting for his political life, the EFL noted.
The Nkrumahist movement believes Nii Noi has had to suffer within the NPP because he is only a youth.
