ECG, NADMO work to restore power after Accra floods

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is working closely with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to restore power to several areas in the Greater Accra Region following a heavy downpour on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

The storm, which led to widespread flooding, damaged parts of ECG’s network and forced temporary shutdowns in multiple locations for safety reasons.

Areas affected include Borteyman Stadium, Affordable Housing, Borteyman Township, Little Roses, Lakeside, Nanakrom, Kissieman, Dome Pillar 2, Christian Village, School Junction, Melcom at School Junction, Nmaidzor Zoomlion, University Farms, Trasacco 3rd Gate, Legon Hill, Santoe, Blue Kiosk, Adenta ECG office, and Madina Islamic University.

According to ECG, the power cut in these areas was carried out on the advice of NADMO, who assessed the risk posed by the flooding.

The power supplier has assured the public that restoration will proceed once NADMO confirms it is safe to do so.

“We are in close communication with NADMO to ensure that the situation is under control before we begin switching power back on in the affected communities,” an ECG spokesperson said.

ECG has urged residents experiencing localised outages or noticing damaged infrastructure, such as fallen poles or sagging lines, to contact the ECG Call Centre on 0302-611611 or reach out via social media at @ECGghOfficial on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
