ECG cautions customers against MoMo fraudsters

Source The Ghana Report

The Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) in the Volta Region has warned its customers against Mobile Money(MoMo) fraudsters.

This follows numerous complaints of some unscrupulous persons disguised as their officials who demand money from customers.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of ECG in the region, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, while speaking to the media said that ECG had no official MoMo number; and for that matter, the public should not give any money as a service charge.

Meanwhile, ECG has urged defaulting customers to settle their outstanding debts within the next two weeks.

In a statement, the statement listed 20 companies including China Railway, Adansi Goldfields, Abosso Goldfield, and AngloGold Ash Iduaprim, that collectively owe over 2 million Ghana Cedis.

Despite numerous efforts to recover the outstanding amount, the power distributor has not seen any positive results.

The defaulting customers have therefore been advised to visit any ECG office within the next two weeks to either make full payment or to negotiate acceptable arrangements for settling their debts.

ECG warned that if payments are not made within the stipulated time frame, the company reserves the right to take the appropriate action against them.

The list of directors of the defaulting companies would be forwarded to national security agencies for tracing and further legal action.
