EC to re-open voter register for transfers, special voting applications from July 3
The Electoral Commission (EC) says it will reopen the voter register for voter transfers from Wednesday, July 3, to Friday, July 5, 2024.
This is to enable prospective voters who could not do so during the first window of applications to do so.
The EC will also allow the application for special voting as well as proxy voting within the same period.
The Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Asare, revealed this on Monday, July 1.
He said it was agreed at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.
Dr Asare added that the exercise will primarily target prison inmates, security personnel, and students.
This comes after the commission conducted a voter transfer exercise in June.
The exercise that was intended to last two days lasted for 16 days after it was riddled with violent incidents.
The EC conducted a voter registration exercise from May 7 to May 29, 2024, and proceeded with a nationwide exercise to replace missing voter ID cards from May 30, 2024.
Per the schedule, the EC intends to submit the provisional voters’ register to the political parties between July 9 and 18, 2024, and mount an exhibition of the voter’s register between July 15 and 24, 2024.
The final voter register is expected to be submitted to the political parties between August 30 and September 5, 2024
