EC to conduct one-day registration on October 1
The Electoral Commission (EC) will hold another registration exercise to capture qualified persons on the new voter register.
The exercise is scheduled for October 1 at the district offices of the EC.
It would be held from 7 am to 6 pm and aimed at enrolling eligible voters who for one reason or the other were not able to register in the just ended registration exercise.
Affected people include those trapped abroad as a result of COVID-19 restrictions and others who were under quarantine in Ghana during the initial registration period, among others.
The EC currently having an exhibition for the register and the applicants are also expected to have an opportunity to correct their particulars within the shortest possible time.
Electoral guidelines in Ghana stipulates that a person may vote provided their name is in the certified register at least 60 days before the election.
It is expected that the process will be completed to meet the guidelines to enable the new batch of applicants to vote in the December 2020 polls.
The NDC Director of IT, Kwame Osei Agyeman-Griffiths, told theghanareport.com that by law such persons must also have a period of the exhibition to verify their particulars.
According to his assessment, it would be a difficult process considering the short time and “quantum of errors” detected in the current register which needs to be addressed by the end of the exhibition exercise.
