The Electoral Commission (EC) has rejected a request from the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a live broadcast of an upcoming meeting.
The meeting which was requested by the NDC is to discuss findings and observations concerning the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) for the upcoming December 7 general elections.
The party highlighted severe discrepancies discovered during the 2024 voter exhibition exercise.
According to the NDC, it identified the discrepancies from an analysis of the Provisional Voter Register given to them by the commission, and registers exhibited at the centres.
However, in its response, the commission said although it is ready to discuss the concerns raised about the PVR, there will not be a need to broadcast the proceedings.
It said this is because the discrepancies identified by the NDC are not new.
“The identification of discrepancies by your party is therefore not a new phenomenon. The Commission welcomes it in the hope that it will help ensure a Credible Register ahead of the 2024 General Election as envisaged by the Exhibition Exercise.
“The Commission is absolutely committed to free, fair, transparent, peaceful, and credible Elections. However, the Commission does not accept the proposal of a live broadcast of this meeting. Our team is ready to meet with your team on the agreed time,” the EC said in the letter.
