EC Confirms NPP’s Patrick Boakye Yiadom as Obuasi East MP
The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially announced Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner of the Obuasi East parliamentary seat after a re-collation of election results.
The process, which was conducted at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office, confirmed Mr. Yiadom’s victory by a narrow margin of 19 votes.
According to the EC, Mr. Yiadom garnered 18,558 votes to retain his seat, narrowly defeating Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who received 18,539 votes.
An independent candidate, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, came in a distant third with 424 votes.
The re-collation was ordered following concerns raised about procedural irregularities during the initial tally of votes in the constituency.
This exercise is part of a broader initiative by the EC to address disputes in nine constituencies nationwide.
During the re-collation, the EC highlighted the importance of ensuring transparency and accuracy in the electoral process, reassuring stakeholders and the general public of its commitment to upholding the integrity of the election.
Political party representatives and election observers closely monitored the process to ensure fairness.
The Obuasi East result has been eagerly anticipated, with tensions running high as political parties awaited the outcome.
To ensure security, heavy police presence was deployed at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office throughout the process.
The re-collation marks an important step in resolving electoral disputes and confirming results in constituencies where irregularities were identified.
Results from the remaining eight constituencies undergoing re-collation are expected to be announced later today.
This declaration reaffirms Patrick Boakye Yiadom’s position as the Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, signaling the conclusion of a contentious electoral process in the constituency.
