The Electoral Commission(EC) has commenced replacing voter ID cards ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The exercise, which began today, May 30, 2024, is expected to end on Friday, June 14, 2024.
The process ensures all eligible voters have their identification cards in time for the upcoming elections.
To simplify the replacement process, the EC has introduced an electronic payment system that requires applicants to pay a fee of ten Ghana cedis (GH¢ 10.00).
The payment can be made conveniently through a mobile money shortcode: *222*1067#.
Once the payment is completed, applicants will receive a reference code as proof of payment, facilitating the swift processing of the new card.
This code is very important as it must be presented to the District Officer when applying for the replacement of the Voter ID Card.
The commission stressed that this replacement service is for only individuals who have lost their Voter ID cards.
According to the EC, individuals who still possess their ID cards but wish to update or change any information on them will not be eligible for this ongoing replacement process.
However, victims of the Volta Region flooding disaster can get their cards replaced for free.
