‘Each house to have unique ID number by November’ – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed that every house in Ghana will have a unique identification number by November 2020.

“Everywhere in Ghana now has a digital address. We’re working with the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority. They’ve generated over 4 million unique addresses, and by November, every property in Ghana will have a unique address,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM.

He said the four million houses that have had their unique addresses already generated will from next month receive their codes which would be affixed on the properties.

The initiative, according to the Vice President is part of the government’s efforts to ensuring there is a digital property addressing system.

“You’re going to have a completely working digital property addressing system. We’ve decided that we need to go for unique addresses for each house or each property. That is what is going to be done.

“The street name, the street number, the house number, and the digital address. That’s what is going to be on the plate.”

Dr. Bawumia also hinted that some streets which were not named in the past have now been named.

“There are certain streets that have not got names. They are naming them, and we are putting them to the MMDCEs to confirm them,” he said.

The National Digital Property Addressing System was introduced in 2017 by the President to generate a unique code for places, houses, streets, and properties within a geographical location to facilitate easy identification.

The system is projected to help in revenue generation, identification of locations for emergency service delivery as well as facilitate smooth business transactions.
