Police arrest 2 women with 1,650 slabs of Indian hemp
Two women have been arrested for possessing 1,650 slabs of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at their home in Nkawkaw Ampekrom.
This was revealed by the Eastern North Police Command in Kwahu Mpraeso.
According to the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Kwadwo Asante, the arrest was made on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, after months of surveillance in the town.
DCOP Asante identified the suspects as 40-year-old Hawa Ibrahim, the landlady, and 30-year-old Latifa Adams.
The Regional Police Commander, in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report, disclosed that the police stormed the house based on intelligence.
Upon an extensive search of the house, 24 maxi bags filled with Indian hemp were retrieved.
The two are currently in custody, assisting with investigations.
They will be arraigned before the court soon.
This comes barely three days after the Ghana Police Service arrested a man, identified as Bukari Yakubu, for possessing 92 slabs of a substance believed to be Indian hemp.
He was arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Akatsi in the early hours of Saturday, May 10, 2025, after several days of careful surveillance.
Police officers raided Yakubu’s home, where they found the 92 compressed slabs, each wrapped in a yellowish material.
Additionally, two Royal motorbikes, suspected to be stolen, were seized during the operation.
