The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority(DVLA) has interdicted four members of staff who were implicated in a documentary alleging professional misconduct by some staff of DVLA.

The investigative documentary which was centred on procedural breaches in acquiring a driver’s license services was filmed between 2019 to 2021.

It concentrated on the Greater Accra Regional Office located at 37 and the Tamale Regional Office in the Northern Region.

The documentary titled ‘Money over Human Lives’ by Multimedia Group Limited depicted breaches in the 48-hour mandatory training at an accredited driving school, the computerized-based theory examination, in-traffic driving, road signs test and eye test.

A statement by the DVLA on  January 11, 2023, said it has taken measures to fix some of the breaches highlighted in the exposé.

“Although the documentary highlights challenges and gaps in the driver licensing processes, some of these gaps have either been reformed, fixed or at an advanced stage of transformation,” the statement said.

In order to further address these challenges, DVLA added it has taken some measures which include interdicting some employees.

“Four members of staff who were implicated by the publication have been interdicted pending the outcome of a full investigation.”

It added that the driving schools implicated have been invited for a review meeting and will be sanctioned appropriately if found to have breached any licensing conditions.

DVLA also announced some additional reforms to prevent future occurrences.
